This race, with a relatively accessible difference in altitude, presents a very beautiful wild route.
The Belledonne massif is a crystalline chain of the Alps which reveals a wild nature in a high mountain atmosphere.
Its
highest peak, the Grand Pic de Belledonne, reaches 2977m. In spite of
peaks not exceeding 3000m, it is a paradise for ski touring, often
requiring a significant difference in altitude.
From Alpe d'Huez, our eyes are naturally drawn to the South by this
very pronounced chain of summits whose relief calls with temptation to a
small visit. The Rochail is a magnificent high mountain itinerary that
can be done in the winter or in the spring and that offers a superb
viewpoint on the Ecrins Massif.
With ski touring, you can go even further and take on major itineraries such as crossing the Grandes Rousses massif.
Three cols, five glaciers and over 2000m of descent are on the menu for this day reserved for the most athletic skiers!

The Olympic Chourum is one of the massif's legendary couloirs, a cross between skiing and caving. This couloir is twice transformed into open tubes (caves / tunnels) leading to the summit of Grand Ferrand (2759m). Atmosphere guaranteed!
The Grand Sauvage couloir lives up to its name perfectly. Accessible by skins from the Pic Blanc, it faces the Quirlies glacier on its south face, while its north face overlooks the magnificent Saint Sorlin glacial cirque.

Saint Christophe en Oisans, village which opens the high valley of Vénéon: from here, the hamlets follow one another until the village of La Bérarde, terminus of the road and access door to the great summits: this village will become the 2nd French station of Alpinism between the 2 world wars. In 1913 the national park of la Bérarde will be created then the National Park of Ecrins will follow in 1973.
